Startup development in Indonesia is a fascinating phenomenon. The restoration of Indonesia’s creative atmosphere and the fast growth of social media also contribute significantly in triggering the spirit and development of startups in Indonesia, this can be evidenced by the emergence of events about the startup world and web development in Indonesia. Started by Yahoo! Open Hack Day some times ago and then continued by BarCampID, FreSh, Ignite Jakarta, TedxJakarta, and other communities that are not yet detected on the radar.
In several cities in Indonesia, the growth of such community is increasing. In Jakarta there is #startupLokal, a community for startups that was initiated by several friends from Jakarta startups. Bandung has FOWAB (Bandung Web Developers Forum) and Jogjakarta too has its own, Bancakan 2.0. Bancakan 2.0 was established and directed to become a similar community like #startupLokal and FOWAB.
Bancakan 2.0 held its first event in February 24th 2010 and received positive responses from Jogjakarta startups. At its first event, about 40 people gathered, shared their experiences, provided opinions, and brainstormed with each other. They also developed a new network and community they always hope to exist in their city, Jogjakarta. During the discussion they decided to hold this kind of event routinely in Jogjakarta.
The 2nd Bancakan’s meet up was held in March 26th 2010. The number of participants attended the event reached 80 people. At this 2nd event, the crews of Bancakan 2.0 developed a partnership with DailySocial that agreed to become the media partner for the next Bancakan 2.0 events.
Continuing the spirit of Jogjakarta startups, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Bancakan 2.0 meet ups were held. At those 3 events, Bancakan 2.0 received higher appreciation and attracted more attendances and volunteers to participate at the event.
